Abstract

From oil refinery explosions to flooding and forest fires, the UK has dealt with a whole host of manmade incidents and natural disasters over the past year. With the 2012 Olympics fast approaching and the threat of terrorist attacks ever looming, these events place a tremendous strain on emergency responders. Whether natural or manmade, these disasters focus the spotlight on the role of emergency medical services who respond to these high pressure and often hostile emergency situations. The challenges faced by personnel looking to deliver efficient and effective clinical care in these situations places professionals under enormous strain, however this stress can be minimized.

While ambulance services in the UK are thankfully not faced with large-scale disasters and events on a regular basis, the ongoing professional development of front-line staff delivering emergency medical services and use of the latest equipment and services is pivotal to the safety and treatment of patients. Whether everyday incidents or large disasters, emergency medical professionals need the correct equipment and services to ensure public safety is not compromized. To ensure effective plans and procedures can be made to protect communities from threats, both natural and manmade, communication between the parties who play a critical part in emergency planning and response is vital; however, finding the time to facilitate this networking can be hard.

The Emergency Services Show and Conference 2011

The Emergency Services Show and Conference 2011 promotes multi-agency collaboration by bringing together stakeholders involved in emergency situations. With over 380 exhibitors and approximately 4000 visitors attending the successful show last year, the Emergency Services Show and Conference 2011 is one of the key events for anyone involved in emergency planning, response or recovery, both in the UK and abroad.

This year's show and conference will be taking place on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 November at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry. Following recent national and global emergencies, the Emergency Services Show and Conference 2011 is proving more relevant than ever.

‘Doing more with less’

The combination of the need for multi-agency collaboration with the ongoing onslaught of budget cuts, the ‘more for less’ mantra from Ministers, has resulted in the public services sector being stretched to full capacity. Despite this reduction in spending, it is crucial that the public sector continues to provide services to our communities. It is now more important than ever for the emergency medical services to invest in the best equipment and services, thus allowing them to deal with incidents more cost effectively.

At a time when budgets are being squeezed, this FREE to attend exhibition provides the perfect opportunity for visitors to research methods of ‘doing more with less’ funds. Visitors will be able to speak to exhibitors about how they may operate more effectively and efficiently, thereby resulting in the highly desirable outcome of ‘more for less’. David Brown, Show Organizer, comments:

In these uncertain times it is more important than ever for all emergency professionals and associated agencies to communicate with one another, this may allow resources to be shared and budgets to be maximized. The Emergency Services Show offers the unique opportunity to meet with specialist equipment and service suppliers from the UK and abroad to facilitate mutually beneficial buying arrangements and discuss new important innovations and products. New performance frameworks, organizational models, and commissioning arrangements; highlight a new era for ambulance services throughout the UK. The show provides a unique platform for medical professionals to discuss fresh challenges in the industry and consider best practice methods.’

July 7 inquest: coroner's inquest

In May 2011, Lady Justice Hallett produced a series of recommendations under rule 43 of the Coroners Rules 1984. While she found that none of the victims died because of delays in the emergency response, she did call for improvements in communication between transport bosses and the emergency services in a crisis. Hallett also demanded improvements in London's emergency medical response, given the fact that it is to host the 2012 Olympics. The Emergency Services Show provides the ideal platform for networking and for discussions to take place among responders and organizations.

Who can attend?

From buyers and specifiers, operational planners through to paramedics and ambulance technicians, this event brings together colleagues, contemporaries and suppliers. Every year, emergency and resilience professionals with a role in operations; procurement; training; recruitment; emergency planning and business continuity, attend.
