In the Journal of Paramedic Practice Volume 5 Issue 9, an anonymously written letter on pages 496–7 included an alleged quote that was clearly attributable to the Medical Director of the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Professor Kevin Mackway-Jones. The quote claimed that Professor Mackway-Jones was not interested in research and that he believed it didn't work.

We accept that this alleged quote is untrue. Professor Mackway-Jones is a strong advocate for research and evidence-based practice, making significant contributions to the field in his position as Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Centre for Effective Emergency Care in Manchester Metropolitan University and as Editor-in-Chief of the Emergency Medicine Journal. We would therefore like to apologise to Professor Mackway-Jones for the erroneous impression given and for any distress caused by the publication of the comment.

The Journal of Paramedic Practice would like to stress that comments made in letters to the editor are not endorsed by the journal and instead represent the views of the individual or individuals concerned.
